Keeping it Real in Cyber Space

Like the real word, cyber space has it's dangers. Here are some rulez to keep you safe when you explore cyber space:

  1. Don’t give out your personal information like your last name, your address or your phone number – ever, no matter what!
  2. Trust your instincts – if you have a bad feeling about someone, or if a person sends you something you don’t like, or a website gives you chills, stop and ask for help, or close the window you are working on.
  3. Never ever make plans to meet someone you don’t know in real life. Online friends are not the same as your real-life friends. If an online friend asks to meet you, tell your parents, us or another adult you trust and be clear with your online friend that you are keeping it in cyber space!
  4. Don’t believe everything you read or see online- there is so much information on the internet, not all of it is true or trustworthy!
  5. Don’t do anything online that costs money, or asks you for any personal details (like your cell number or surname)
  6. Keep your passwords private. Don’t share your passwords with anyone except for a parent, guardian or trusted adult.

Always sign out of your email account or ActionApps before you leave the computer you are working on. If you don’t, the person who uses that computer next, will have access to your email and the Girl’sNet website!
