Women'sNet @ the World Conference Against Racism, Xenophobia and Related Intolerances 2001

Women'sNet collaborated with the WCAR Secreteriat in order to provide participants at the NGO Forum with a Cyber Cafe.

Women'sNet staff and volunteers ran the Cafe, with technical assistance from In Touch IT Solutions, who also made arrangements for the use of 60 computers. Internet access was provided by UU-Net.

The Cafe was a huge success, enabling people at the conference to use the facilities to run campaigns, lobby, report back to their organisations at home, keep in touch with family, do research, print minutes of caucus meetings and draft changes to the NGO declaration. At Least 1 250 people signed our Guest Book!

In addition, the Feminist International Radio Endeavor (FIRE) used the Cafe to Broadcast live over the Internet every evening - reaching women all over the world! AMARC (World Association of Community Broadcasters) also used the Cafe to broadcast "Voices Without Frontiers" on the Internet.

Women'sNet and the Association for Progressive Communications' Africa-Women produced a Bulletin on gender at the WCAR, called Intersections.
