Uganda Women's Network (UWONET ) is a network of national organisations and individuals in Uganda working through information sharing, communication and collective action on issues of common interest and concern to women. UWONET's main mission is to promote networking and attain collective vision and action among different actors working towards development and the transformation of the unequal gender relations in society.

UWONET is an advocacy network and has worked very hard to influence various donor and Government policies. Among the laws influenced by UWONET (in respect to taking into consideration the concerns of women) are the Local Government Act, 1997 and the Land Act 1998. UWONET has also brought to the attention of the World bank the effects of Structurral adjustment Programme (SAPs) on women. to support its advocacy work, UWONET carries out research and documents its findings.

UWONET's objectives are:

  1. to increase women's access to power and decision-making

  2. increase the economic empowerment of women and other marginalised groups by lobbying for debt relief and mobilize women to take collective action to address SAPs. UWONET also works to ensure that women are given access and control over productive resources and benefits.

  3. Advocatee for the elimination of rape and defilement, and any other forms of abuse and violence to women;

  4. Collect and disseminate information that is of interest and will improve the well being of women
