Support White Ribbon Campaign

The Nisaa Institute for Women's Development is a non-government,
non-profit community based organisation that offers services to
battered women and their children as well as survivors of rape. The
organisation is opposed to all forms of oppression, exploitation and
violence against women and subscribes to the principle of
non-sectarianism and social transformation.
As a result of the growing problems of violence against women in South Africa, Nisaa launched the White Ribbon Campaign Opposing Violence Against Women in 1997 at the Johannesburg City Hall. The objectives of the campaign are to circulate a comprehensive pamphlet detailing the problem of woman abuse, its manifestations, effects and possible intervention; to conduct educational presentations on woman abuse to scholars, relevant stakeholders and the lay community; to create a greater awareness of the problem of violence against women and encourage community participation by wearing the white ribbon. Since 1997 we have distributed over 500 000 pamphlets and ribbons within the provinces of Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Kwa Zulu Natal. This year we are focussing on the provinces of Mpumalanga, North West and the Northern Cape. Within the year 2000 the campaign will be launched in Zimbabwe and will continue to target the remaining South African provinces as well as SADC countries. Should you be interested in becoming a partner or know of any organisation that would be interested in this campaign kindly confirm this in writing. Nisaa has pamphlets in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho and Zulu. The pamphlets are packaged in sets of one thousand. It is only through your co-operation that we have a broad impact on our communities.
