In 1996, NICRO and the South African Police Service helped to establish a forum to coordinate the services of the different organisations offering assistance to victims of crime and violence in Pietermaritzburg. This forum meets monthly, reports on the activities of the various member organisations, collates statistics for the area and implements special projects. The Victim Support Forum has as one of its aims: to establish the training needs of the South African Police Service in terms of victim care, and co-ordinate such training.

In March 1997 a task team comprising representatives of both the SAPS and organisations offering services to victims of crime and violence, was mandated work towards this aim. This proposal arises from the task team's discussions. The full text of this proposal will be published on Women'sNet soon!
