(Rape Crisis Cape Town, 6/7/99)
Rape Crisis Cape Town has been invited to send its two Counselling Co-Ordinators (Kathleen Dey from the Central Observatory Office and Ntombomzi Tinto from the Khayelitsha Community Office) to Albania for five days to work with the Family Planning Association (FPA) in Albania in devising systems for dealing with Kosovar women who were raped during the recent crisis. They leave on Friday this week.

This has come about through a funding partner of RCCT, Womankind Worldwide, which is also a funding partner of the Albanian FPA. The purpose of this exchange is summarised below:

"Given RCCT's lengthy experience around the issue of rape, the exchange visits have been conceived of as having two main aims. Firstly they are opportunity for both Womankind partners to be exposed to another area of the world, where a similar situation regarding women and rape/sexual violence exists.

Secondly, the visits offer an opportunity for RCCT to act as part trainer/part facilitator in sharing experience, knowledge and skills with Womankind's Albanian partners, as they seek to develop their support for Kosovar women and girls. This broad framework applies to both the RCCT visit to Albania in July, and the return visit by the FPA to South Africa in September."
