Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre to end violence against women in conjunction with 20 expert authors throughout South Africa is producing a National Legal Manual for Counsellors of raped and battered women.

The manual is divided into sections on battery, rape, femicide, battered women who kill abusers, sexual harassment and customary issues with special chapters on particular vulnerabilities such as pregnancy, immigrant status, disability, language, sexual orientation, HIV/AIDS, abuse of the elderly and religious considerations.

The manual will be available in looseleaf format to accommodate updates as the law changes, and it will be available from July 1998.

Organisations that are unable to afford the costs of the manual will be subsidised by Tshwaranang.
