Most women who experience abuse try to change the situation and hope that it will become better. Leaving the relationship is often the last resort. In the first section of the booklet we look at the forms of abuse experienced in relationships and help that is available for these problems. However, leaving the relationship is often the only real option. The second part of the booklet also deals with issues around leaving an abusive relationship, including the practical issues that need to be addressed when a relationship comes to an end. At the end of the booklet there is a third part with useful addresses, including a list of violence related service organisations country-wide that can help you. The booklet was developed by the NISAA Institute for Women's Development which has been offering sheltering, counseling and community services to abused women and children from all race groups since 1994. NISAA has offices and a shelter in Lenasia which is in southwest Johannesburg.
