Women'sNet Newsletter 03/11/2008


Women'sNet, as part of its work to support women's activism and networking, is hosting an email list for the support of Zimbabwean women during the country's current crisis in which woman activists were arrested, beaten and detained. Membership is open to women activists, feminist women, and gender activists. This list serve is for communication, events, and organisations which are non-partisan in nature. It's a feminist list serve and analysis, discussions, and actions will reflect this. Organisations involved include POWA, the Zimbabwe Crisis Committee and more.

We will be in Cape Town next week for the Feminist Tech Exchange! Women'sNet with AWID and the Association for Progressive Communications is organising this ground breaking international event. Read more here: http://ftx.apcwomen.org/.

The second Substantive Session of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) for the Durban Review Conference met in Geneva from 6 to 17 October 2008. It followed a first substantive PrepCom session which was held from 21 April to 2 May 2008. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Navanethem Pillay, opened the session by underlining the need to embrace a multi-faceted approach to achieve the maximum gain from the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA).
