WomensNet and 1000 Women Trust have come together to collaborate on a 16Days Campaign to
amplify the voices of women in our communities.

During the past year together we have created a safe space for women to share and tell their stories and
to give us a picture of the impact of domestic violence, abuse and rape on women and the impact on
our society. We were touched by the big number of women who participated in the #MeToo campaign and
we support the UN Women theme of 2018 of #HearMeToo.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign that takes place
each year. It commences on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against
Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. This year we together will support all the Women’s Led
Organisations to amplify their voices and support the movement of women.

Our first offer of support is a training opportunity on 6-7 November at the new Saartjie Baartman IT
Centre for Women and Girls in Athlone. The training will focus on basic computer skills and how to use
the internet for movement building. Organisations will use digital stories to collect and publish their own
stories and as a movement / network we will be able to use Social Media and other platforms to ensure
that our voices are heard.

We will use some of the tools available on www.womensnet.org.za and engage with www.anexsa.co.za
to ensure that community groups to tell their stories.
