Flagship programme: Giving Girls tools to change their world

GirlsNet, together with the Department of Communications, are advancing their exciting social and multimedia programme. GirlsNet provides a space for learning, sharing, networking and for advocacy of girls.

Digital Stories for Transformation

Women’sNet has used digital media since its inception in 1998 to amplify women’s voices and share information and knowledge. We are committed to challenging traditional approaches to developing media which appropriates women’s voices misrepresents us, and disempowers us, our approach to digital stories is one of empowerment, of women’s control over their voices and stories, and respectful of process and product. In the process of making digital stories, the importance of women’s control and empowered use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) tools is emphasised.

Social Media Training

Social Media Training for Girls and Women.

In partnership with The Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services as well as WeCan24, a Media24 initiative the Girls’ Net Mobi Site project has taken off. The project equips young females with the necessary tools and skills to harness the power of social media via various ICTs. Workshops provide women with knowledge about safety online, using social media for campaigns and causes, tips on web based article writing and how to spread positive change online through social media platforms.
